Privacy and Data Management in Experience Sampling Apps

In this thesis, we investigate the privacy and data management in mobile Experience Sampling applications, which collect and process sensitive data from their users and therefore require regulations on how to handle such data. These regulations are given by the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union (GDPR).We mainly focused on the articles 15 - 21 of the GDPR to elaborate the necessary features for an Experience Sampling application to comply with these regulations. The review of existing Experience Sampling applications regarding the found features build a foundation for a recommended design and implementation of said features. We provided a concept on how to handle data and privacy management in the back-end of an Experience Sampling application and presented a prototypical implementation for an Experience Sampling application, which is currently being developed at the Technische Universität Berlin. Our main contributions are the translation of the legal text of the GDPR into clear recommendations regarding privacy and data management in Experience Sampling applications.
