Bachelor Thesis: A Mobile Application to Enable Trusted Cross-organizational Deliveries of Sensor-equipped Parcels

Title:

A Mobile Application to Enable Trusted Cross-organizational Deliveries of Sensor-equipped Parcels

Description:

In order to enable more efficient and cost-effective delivery of parcels, other logistics service providers are nowadays being hired as subcontractors to take over parts of the delivery.  In order to be able to trace which service provider is responsible for an unsuccessful delivery, events that attest to a violation of user-defined service level agreements or a change in the currently responsible logistics service provider should be stored in real time in a tamper-proof and trustworthy system.

This thesis shows how consumers can use a smartphone application to set such Service Level Agreements and how an intelligent sensor, which is placed in the parcel, can be instructed to validate these agreements and automatically report violations.  It also shows how representatives of different actors involved in the delivery process can mutually agree on the handover of parcels using the smartphone app.

The focus of the work is on ensuring that no false events are stored in the system as far as practicable due to incorrect user interaction or vulnerabilities in the smartphone app.  A prototype for Android devices, which enables a violation of the defined Service Level Agreements to be reliably attributed to a specific logistics service provider, has been implemented in React Native.
