Design and Implementation of a Usable Transparency - enhancing Application in a sandboxed Environment

Description: Transparency is very important when it comes to handling user data. The recently by the European Union adopted General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) dictates, among other things, that users have the right to know at any time, when and how personal data is processed. This information should be provided in easy-to-understand language. Unfortunately, it is not transparent enough in the mobile context. Applications on a smartphone are constantly sending data without users noticing. This paper presents the design and development of an Android application that aims to provide more transparency in a user-friendly way, giving users better insight into the data usage of all applications. An evaluation shows that the presented application seems to be user-friendly designed and easy to use.
