Integration of the SONIC protocol into Existing Online Social Networks to Facilitate Seamless Inter-Platform Communication

Description:

Online Social Network (OSN) Platforms are nowadays mostly closed
ecosystems that prevent users from seamless communication between
different platforms. The project SONIC (http://sonic-project.net [1]) proposes
protocols and APIs to facilitate an open, borderless federation of
different OSN platforms, types, and architectures, which also allows
seamless OSN profile migration. The main objective of this thesis is to
integrate and evaluate the SONIC protocol into an existing, open-source
OSN platform.

Challenges:

• Integrate the architectural requirements of SONIC into the existing OSN
• Integrate the SONIC protocol to support inter-platform communication
• Demonstrate the solution in a scenario with at least three inter-connected OSN platforms
• Evaluate the implemented solution

Prerequisites: 

• Strong background and interest in protocol and API implementation and design
• Knowledge and experience in security topics is a plus: PKI, digital signatures, web of trust
• Sophisticated programming skills in one of the following languages: Java or PHP 
• Independent working style
