Bachelor Thesis: Evaluation of Accuracy and Energy-Efficiency in Terminal-Based Positioning Technologies using the example of Android Smartphones
Title:
Evaluation of Accuracy and Energy-Efficiency in Terminal-Based Positioning Technologies using the example of Android Smartphones
Description:
Due to the increasing number of smartphones having several positioning technologies at hand, location-based services and applications are gaining much popularity these days - in particular proactive applications that will be more common in the long term. Certainly they have to continuously keep track of a device’s position, which usually results in a high energy demand. Though the significant differences of those positioning technologies regarding their precision, accuracy and energy-efficiency, the implementation of location-based applications is challenging. Focus of this bachelor thesis is to measure, store and evaluate position information and raw data of different positioning technologies and to derive their individual characteristics in the field. The collected data can provide a solid basis to further develop intelligent strategies to cope with heterogeneous positioning information and lead to a simulation framework to evaluate different positioning algorithms with regard to energy consumption and quality of position.
Challenges:
- Strong practical relevance (Implementation on Android devices)
- Gather reference position information
Prerequisites:
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming
- Ideally first experience with Android or other mobile platforms
