Kai Grunert received his Master’s degree in Computer Engineering [3] at the Technische Universität Berlin [4] in May 2014. During his studies, he worked at Toll Collect GmbH [5] as a software engineer and architect. He was responsible for creating an automation system for test cases to verify the functionality of On-Board Units. Prior to that, he finished the integrated degree program Communication Systems [6] at the Beuth Hochschule für Technik Berlin [7]. In the practical phases he developed access control systems for Idencom GmbH [8].
In December 2014, he joined the Telekom Innovation Laboratories as a research scientist in Prof. Axel Küpper’s group Service-centric Networking [9]. Until 2020, he supported the teaching for the lectures Business Processes and IT systems as well as Web Technologies. In 2018, he started his own research project PROCEED [10] where he and his teams created a decentralized Business Process Management System with an engine for executing BPMN-based processes in a distributed fashion. The project is available open source on Gitlab [11] and is still under active development. Currently, Mr. Grunert works on a project for the Werner von Siemens Campus where he investigates the usage of a process system for Industrie 4.0.
