Internet of Services (ST 2015)

Description

This SNET project is about carrying out a whole project. A given topic will be analyzed, specified, implemented, tested and documented. These topics can vary within the following groups of related subjects:

  • Mobile Computing
  • Context-aware Computing
  • Linked Data
  • Digital Communities
  • Cloud Computing
  • Web Services

Depending on the topic, the project will be supervised by different SNET researchers, T-Labs employees or other guest lecturers. At the beginning of the semester, the participating students can apply for one of the specific tasks, which will be announced at the beginning of the semester in the first lecture. Then the supervisor will define groups and regular meetings with the students, explain the task and provide materials and tools. During the semester, each participant of the project has to present their topic, progress and final results in different talks.

The course is conducted in English and requires programming skills. It is principally designed to impart

  • technical skills 30%
  • method skills 20%
  • system skills 20%
  • social skills 30%

Target Group

This compulsory course (Wahlpflichtfach) addresses Bachelor, Master and Diploma students of

  • Computer Science (Informatik)
  • Computer Engineering (Technische Informatik)
  • Business Informatics (Wirtschaftsinformatik)
  • Media Informatics (Medieninformatik)
  • ICT Innovation
  • Compulsory Elective in other degree programs possible if course is not full

Schedule

The final grade under the terms of § 47 (2) AllgStuPO is calculated according to the grading scheme no. 2 of faculty IV. Attendance of all appointments is mandatory.

Application

Each topic requires different number of participants and is limited in general. Students with substantial knowledge of Java or another object-oriented programming language can register for this course by sending an email including name, field of study, bachelor or master program, matriculation number, experiences with object-oriented programming, and preferred topics to  Registration is open until April 21th 2015. At the introductory lecture, the topics will be presented and any registered student may choose a topic.

Registration

We register you – the self-enrollment via QISPOS is deactivated. Some majors accept this course in several study areas/pillars (computer engineering, business informatics, etc.). The system doesn’t allow the assignment to a specific study area/pillar. If this affects you, this means: We still register you, but after finishing this course you have to go the examination office and move this course to your preferred area/pillar. Exception: if you want to have this as an additional course, e.g. extracurricular studies (Studium Generale) or carry over to master studies, then register via a Yellow Page (“Zusatzmodul”).

All students need to clarify for themselves if they can use the credits in their TUB subjects.

Recommended Reading

Literature is strongly dependent on the topic and will therefore be given during the course.
