Autonomous Dynamic Social Group Discovery

Description:

Determining the dynamic social group of a person, which is defined as the people who stay in his vicinity over time is a complex task, as people who randomly walk by or stay in vicinity without being connected to you (e.g., people waiting at a bus stop) have to be filtered out. In this project, you are going to develop a mobile application that is capable of determining the dynamic social group autonomously, i.e., directly on the phone. The developed system has to be able to determine, who is belonging to the dynamic social group at a given time and when a person joins or leaves the group.

Tasks:

  • Design and implement a mobile application based on Android for social group discovery
  • Utilize available sensor techniques to determine, which other mobile devices are located in vicinity. The developed mechanism should conserve the phone’s battery
  • Uniformly identify the detected devices and handle errors caused by varying sensor readings on different devices
  • Transfer the data to a database on a central server for later evaluation

Requirements:

  • Interest in the field of Social Networks
  • Interest in the field of Location-based Services
  • Mobile Development (Android)
  • Knowledge of web technologies
