Context-aware Personal Assistant with Linked Open Data


Smart personal assistants have seen an important breakthrough on different mobile platforms in recent years. They provide services which take the context of a user into consideration in order to display fitting information pieces, such as weather, movie screenings or traffic information close to you. However, these systems are currently proprietary and cannot be used by a 3rd party. Linked Data defines an approach for distributed data publishing and sharing. One key task during the course of the project is to become familiar with these topics. With Linked Open Data, an enormous set of data is already available and can be used for different functionalities regarding the development of an open personal assistant. The implementation process involves a backend framework which finds the right data for the particular user context, as well as a user-facing Android application which displays this data in a proactive manner.


  • Get familiar with Linked Data, Semantic Web, Context-aware Services and Web Services
  • Implement a personal assistant Android App, which displays information based on the location context of the user
  • Implement an according backend system, which relies on Linked Open Data and Semantic Web technologies and include various data sources
  • Create test scenarios, which show a demonstration for different user locations

  • Experience in web development and technologies such as REST, HTTP and JSON
