Abdulbaki@Mobile World Congress - Telekom@Connected City

In Hall 3, the Connected City exhibition featured a variety of companies dealing with M2M and Smart City solutions. Here, Telekom demonstrated a project dealing with the logistics problem occuring in the port of Hamburg. Furthermore, Ericsson showed cloud solutions for restaurants and the area of health care. The GSMA OneAPI initiative that works on standardizing operater-specific APIs also awoke my interest. At the moment, messaging, payment as well as sign-in functionalities using the mobile network operator are provided by these APIs. Location APIs will follow soon.

My last stop for today was at the booth of Deutsche Telekom. Thomas Kiessling and Claudia Nemath from the board of directors gave a press conference where they talked about the importance of partnering with other companies, mWallet and emerging M2M solutions. In addition, I gained hands-on experience with the new FirefoxOS phone that is based on web standards like HTML 5, CSS and JavaScript. We will see if Mozilla can establish itself in the Mobile OS market.

Stay tuned as I will update you tomorrow with more news directly from Barcelona and the Mobile World Congress!
