Abdulbaki@Mobile World Congress - New Devices, Services and Apps

The topic of this year's MWC is Smart Cities as you find M2M, Smart Devices, Smart Education, Health Care Solutions, Location-based Services and other related topics all over the event.

Samsung, for example, has a big booth where they have presented their latest devices. The Galaxy Note 8.0 is a tablet including the S Pen that fills the gap between the Galaxy Note phones and the big tablets. It provides many innovative features, such as writing "?car" with the pen to autmatically open Google and search for cars or "!paris" for finding the city in Google Maps. Samsung Knox, on the other hand, is an Android-based solution for allowing employees to use one phone for private as well enterprise purposes. The NFC experience did also not came too short as I got a soft drink from a soda machine (for free) that works via NFC payment. :)

Besides their well-known marketplace, eBay Inc. also concentrates on innovative shopping apps for retailers and customers in order to boost the shopping experience. The very interesting eBay Now app, for example, builds a bridge between retailers, couriers and end customers in order to deliver a spontaneous purchase in minutes to the customer's current position. This app is only working in the US right now. However, a launch in Europe is also planned in the near future.

Motorola's new RAZRi phone has an integrated contex-aware app called Smart Action that personalizes the phone according to the user's context. Rules can either be defined manually or the app learns from the user's behavior. This allows rules to be defined like "whenever I go sleep, shut down GPS and WiFi", which again saves battery.

Other interesting demos: LG streams HD content from the phone onto the TV and upscales it to Ultra HD, NEC provides solutions for Smart City scenarios and Intel launched their location-based service M8.
