Bachelor, Master or Diploma Thesis: Context Modeling in Dynamic Networks using Semantic Web Technologies
Title:
Context Modeling in Dynamic Networks using Semantic Web Technologies
Description:
Mobile networks spend a big amount of energy, which can be reduced by an adaptive power management performing network optimizations in the network. Decisions regarding those network optimizations in terms of energy efficiency have to be based on context data acquired from the network and its components. This context data that can be described by a context model, is defined as any information that can be used to provide a detailed description of the current state of the network and all of its components as well as information describing the interaction between the different entities including mobile devices.
The context model for a mobile network and components attached to it needs to address several challenging issues:
- Dynamic change of the state of all entities in the network (e.g., the load of a base station)
- Interconnection between entities of Multi-RAT networks (GSM, UMTS, LTE)
- Integration of various context sources (e.g., network, mobile device, external)
- High number of entities in the network
The concepts of Linked Data provide convenient possibilities to interconnect entities from different domains, but are mainly used for static data. The objectives for this thesis are to evaluate the applicability of Linked Data methodologies in this scenario and to develop a context model that answers the issues mentioned above. To provide further usage of the data, reasoning algorithms should be designed and applied to the existing context model.
The basic objectives of this thesis are:
- Evaluate different context modeling approaches
- Analyze the applicability of Linked Data for context modeling in mobile networks
- Demonstrate reasoning functionality based on the developed context model
Challenges:
- Develop solutions to deal with the large extends of context sources in mobile telephony networks
- Apply the concept of Linked Data to a constantly changing environment
- Find a practical solution to interconnect the open datasets of the Semantic Web with the closed datasets of mobile telephony networks
Prerequisites:
- Interest in Context Modeling Techniques
- Knowledge of mobile telephony technologies and mobile operating systems might be useful
- Interest to work in the field of mobile computing, context modeling and data mining/analysis
